Affiliate Disclosure
We earn a commission when you buy through a link on this site. Here is exactly how that works, what it costs you, and what it does and does not influence.
The short version
The Cam Feeder earns a commission when you buy a product through a link on this site. It costs you nothing extra - the price you pay is the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly.
The Amazon Associates statement
The Cam Feeder is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Which links earn us money
Every product buy button on this site - the ones reading “View on Amazon” or “Check price on Amazon” - is an affiliate link. They are marked #ad and carry rel="sponsored nofollow noopener".
Links to sources - a manufacturer’s support documentation, the IOC or ABA checklists, the Cornell Lab - are not affiliate links and earn us nothing. They are there so you can check what we have written.
Internal links between our own pages earn nothing directly, though they may lead you to a page that has a buy button on it.
Who we have relationships with
Amazon, and at present nobody else. We have joined no CJ or Awin programs and we build no tracking links for any advertiser we have not joined - including manufacturers whose programs exist publicly. If that changes, this page changes with it.
No manufacturer has paid us, given us a product, or been shown a page before publication. We have received no free samples, which is a straightforward consequence of the fact that we do not test products at all.
What commission does not affect
The rankings. We would say that regardless, so here are the structural reasons rather than an assurance about our character:
- The ranking criteria are fixed and published. They are set out in order at how we pick, so a recommendation that contradicts them is visible to you rather than hidden in a judgment call.
- Commission rates are broadly similar across products in a single retail category, so there is little to gain by steering you between them.
- We rank cheaper products above expensive ones routinely - the no-subscription models lead several lists ahead of the best camera in the category, which is the opposite of what commission-maximizing would produce.
- We tell people not to buy things. The nest box hub opens by explaining that the product films an empty box for most of the year; the international guide tells non-US readers to buy locally instead of through our links.
- Some pages carry no products at all because attaching a purchase to them would be dishonest - the cleaning and welfare guides say so explicitly on the page.
About the prices
Prices shown on this site are pulled from the retailer and stamped with the date they were checked. If our data is more than 48 hours old the price disappears and the button reads “Check price on Amazon” instead.
We never type a price into body copy, because a number in prose cannot be refreshed and becomes wrong silently. The price you pay is whatever the retailer is charging when you arrive, not what we displayed.
Cookies and tracking
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer may set a cookie that attributes a subsequent purchase to us. That is the mechanism by which the commission is paid, and it is governed by the retailer’s own privacy terms.
Our buy links pass through a redirect on this site (/go/) so the destination for each product lives in one place and can be updated without rewriting an article. That redirect is excluded from search indexing and sets no advertising cookie of its own. See the privacy policy for what we collect.
Your rights, and the FTC
United States Federal Trade Commission guidance requires that material connections between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. That is why the #ad marker sits under every buy button rather than only on this page, and why a funding note appears above the first buy CTA on every page that has one.
You are never obliged to use our links. If you would rather not, search for the product directly - our recommendations are the same either way, and the analysis on the page works just as well if you buy elsewhere.
