Editorial Policy

The rules

1. We do not claim to have tested anything

The Cam Feeder has handled none of these products. The words “tested”, “hands-on”, “in our testing” and “our lab” do not appear on this site as claims about us, anywhere. How we pick sets out the method we use instead and its limits.

2. No figure is invented

Every specification is read from the manufacturer’s own published material and linked to it. Where a maker does not publish something, we print “not published” rather than estimating - even when that leaves a comparison table visibly incomplete. An incomplete table that is true beats a full one that is not.

This is enforced by the site’s data model rather than by discipline: a specification is either a value with a source or an explicit gap, so an uncited figure fails the build.

3. No fabricated reviews, testimonials or ratings

There are no customer testimonials on this site, no star ratings we have awarded, and no aggregate scores in our structured data. We publish no invented quotes and attribute nothing to a person who did not say it.

We also do not mark up an editorial opinion as a product review rating for search engines, because we have not reviewed these products in the sense that markup asserts.

4. Prices are live or absent

Prices are pulled from the retailer and stamped with the date checked. Data older than 48 hours is not displayed - the figure disappears and the button reads “Check price” instead. No price is ever typed into body copy, because prose cannot be refreshed.

5. Every recommendation names a wrong buyer

A pick with no downside is an advertisement. Every product carries a “skip this” line, and where a whole product category is a bad idea for most people we say so at the top of the page rather than at the bottom.

6. Commission does not decide rankings

The ranking criteria are fixed and published at how we pick, which is what makes this checkable rather than a promise. Full commercial terms are on the disclosure page.

7. We link to sources, including unflattering ones

Every page carries a sources list. Those links are not affiliate links and earn us nothing; they exist so you can check whether we have represented them fairly. Where a source contradicts a conclusion we would prefer, the source wins.

8. We do not quote strangers as evidence

We do not assemble anonymous forum comments and present them as findings, because a curated set of quotes reads as evidence without being any - you cannot tell whether it is representative or selected. The page about owner complaints describes recurring patterns and their mechanical causes instead.

9. Bird welfare outranks commercial interest

Where correct practice conflicts with selling something, correct practice wins and the page carries no products at all. The nectar and cleaning and bird bath guides say on the page why they have nothing to sell.

Who writes and reviews this

Every page is written by the byline it carries. There is no separate editorial team and we do not pretend there is one - a single author is what this site actually has, and the about page is candid about what that author is and is not.

No manufacturer sees a page before publication, and none has any input into what appears here.

Corrections

Manufacturers change specifications, revise listings and update apps. Some of this site will be out of date, and some of it is probably wrong now. If you find an error, please tell us or email info@thecamfeeder.com.

How corrections are handled:

• A factual error - a wrong specification, a misread source, a sum that does not add up - is fixed as soon as it is confirmed, and the page’s update date changes.
• A source that has changed - a maker revising its published specifications - is updated and the page re-dated. We treat this as routine rather than as an error.
• A material correction that changes a recommendation is noted on the page itself rather than quietly edited in.
• Prices are not corrections. They refresh automatically and disappear when stale.

Updates

Every page shows the date it was last updated, and those dates are real content dates. A routine price refresh is not an editorial update and never changes them - a site that re-dates every page daily is telling you nothing, and we would rather the date meant something.
